Discover Acatenango Volcano

Acatenango is one of Guatemala’s best-known volcanoes and a demanding hiking destination in the highlands near Antigua. Its slopes offer dramatic views towards neighbouring Volcán de Fuego, one of Central America’s most active volcanoes.

The magnet captures the reason many hikers make the climb: a steep volcanic cone rising above the clouds while a dark plume of ash and gas erupts from the summit. Seen from high altitude, the eruption looks both close and immense.
