Discover Tulum
Tulum is unusual among major Maya archaeological sites because it stands directly above the Caribbean Sea. The fortified settlement occupies a low coastal cliff where stone temples overlook white sand and intensely turquoise water.
The magnet looks down along the coastline rather than concentrating only on the ruins. Palm trees and small buildings sit beside a brilliant beach, while the reef-coloured sea fills much of the frame and explains why Tulum’s setting is so distinctive.
Exploring the archaeological zone allows visitors to move between stone structures and cliff-edge viewpoints before descending towards the coast where access is permitted. The combination of history and beach makes the site feel very different from inland Maya cities.
This Tulum magnet remembers the destination through its meeting of ruins and Caribbean shoreline. Adding your visit year can tie the turquoise coastal view to your own journey through the Yucatán Peninsula.
