Discover Easter Island

Easter Island, or Rapa Nui, is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world and is internationally known for its monumental moai statues. These stone figures were created by the island’s Polynesian society and remain central to the cultural landscape of Rapa Nui.

The magnet shows moai on the grassy slopes of Rano Raraku, the volcanic quarry where most of the statues were carved. Some figures stand partly buried while others lean at different angles, giving the landscape the appearance of a vast open-air workshop frozen in time.

Visiting Rano Raraku helps explain how the moai were produced before they were transported to ceremonial platforms around the island. Other sites reveal the statues in very different settings, from coastal ahu to the dramatic line of moai at Ahu Tongariki.
