Discover Salar de Uyuni

Within the immense white surface of Salar de Uyuni, Isla Incahuasi rises like a rocky island from the salt. The outcrop is covered with giant columnar cacti and provides a rare elevated viewpoint across the otherwise almost perfectly flat landscape.

The magnet looks from the rocky island towards the open Salar. Tall cacti stand among dark volcanic rocks in the foreground, while the white salt surface extends towards blue-grey mountains on the distant horizon.

Walking up through the cactus-covered terrain creates a striking contrast with driving across the flat below. From higher points on the island, the geometry of the salt and the isolation of the rocky outcrop become much easier to understand.
